Soulwinning still works today. There has never been a greater time to go door to door. How can we win more souls?
Luke 17:26–30
“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.”
In Matthew 24 and Luke 27, the Christ explains that the world will not be ready for His return. Just like the days of Noah before the flood, mankind would be going about the mundane things of life with no idea judgment was coming. How sad!
Noah preached righteousness to the wicked world while he was building the ark. Yet, only his family was spared believing the prophecies of sin, salvation, and judgment.
2 Peter 2:5
“And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;”
Christ sent the disciples to preach the Gospel to a lost and dying world that did not know there were lost or dying in their sins.
Today, we are commissioned with the same task – to take the Gospel to a lost and dying world that isn’t thinking about God. Why? They are busy with life! As in the days of Noah, they are eating, drinking, working, and playing. Most of the people that you will witness to are not thinking about God or judgment. They are simply living life with no thought of eternity.
Don’t miss this important truth.
We are called to interrupt the everyday lives of sinners. We are commissioned to take their attention from the mundane things of life to consider Christ and eternity. Soulwinning is a command for the Christian.
Too many Christians are paralyzed with the false idea that we shouldn’t “bother people” with the Gospel.
I have heard too many Christians disdain soul winning saying things like:
- I don’t think we should knock on someone’s door to share the Gospel.
- I don’t want to interrupt someone’s dinner.
- They are enjoying a day at the park. We should not disturb them.
- If you confront them, you will push them away from God. How foolish! Statements like these display a well- meaning ignorance of our holy duty. The Great Commission is a divine call to interrupt people’s lives in an attempt to rescue them from eternal damnation!
What is an intervention?
An intervention is a tool used to help people overcome addiction or break cycles of self-destructive behavior. During an intervention, a person or group of people, confront a loved one with their problem and its consequences. The person being confronted is rarely happy to participate at first. Yet, with God’s help, a breakthrough can occur that saves the addict from years of pain and suffering.
Soulwinning is a spiritual intervention.
Christ called us to love Him enough and care about sinners sufficiently to confront them with their sinful condition and its eternal consequences. Some sinners will feel “bothered” or “offended” like an addict happy in his sin. Some will outright reject your efforts of love and condemn you for it. However, if we faithfully plant and water the Gospel seed, God will give the increase. We will see some souls gloriously saved.
1 Corinthians 3:6
“I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.”
As you go soulwinning this week, you will meet people who are eating, drinking, working, and playing. Sinners are not thinking about God. They have no care for eternity. Sinners don’t know Jesus. Like people in the days of Noah, they are ignorant their desperate condition and of coming judgment. They are simply hoping to get through another week and have a little fun along the way.
Decide to be a spiritual interventionist. You will not be worried about bothering people. You will kindly and politely interrupt their lives, confront them with their sin, and point them to the Saviour. We go in the authority of Christ. He will give us boldness to speak and power to make a difference as we obey His great commission.
