Providence, Rhode Island is an old town full of history and significance. It is a gorgeous city nestled at the mouth of the Providence River and the head of the Narragansett Bay.
Providence was founded in 1636 by Baptist preacher Roger Williams. He named the city to commemorate “God’s merciful Providence” which gave him the area as a safe haven for him and his followers. This city birthed in Christian faith has long since forgotten her godly heritage. In 2017, a Barna poll listed Providence as America’s third least Bible-minded city. Only 12% read the Bible in the week before the survey and strongly asserted the Bible is accurate in the principles it teaches. That’s less than even New York City, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.
