Ernest Shackleton placed this ad because he wanted a crew for an Antarctic expedition. It is said that 5,000 men applied for the job. The ad understated the dangers. Shackleton’s 1914-1917 Antarctic expedition became a breathtaking tale of hardship and survival.

The response to this ad reminds us that some are drawn to seemingly impossible tasks. Mainstream Christianity is marketing the life of a Christian as a neverending party with few rules and even fewer expectations. Our Lord presented a very different concept of discipleship.

Consider these verses:

Luke 14:26–27, 33
26. “If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27. “And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.”
33. “So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”

Small tasks with little effort and low reward don’t inspire diligence or sacrifice.

We must get back to authentic Christianity, reminding people that there is a cost to be a disciple of Christ. You get saved by believing the Gospel. You become a disciple by continuing in His Word.

Christ gave His all to save us. We owe Him our all for saving us.

1 Corinthians 6:19–20
19. “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? ”
20. “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
Romans 12:1
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

Save New England is not promising you parties and parades for serving in the Northeast. On the contrary, we are calling people back to Biblical purpose and sacrifice.

Life here is hard. The need is great. The odds are stacked against us. The enemy is real. The battle is on.

But greater is He that is in us than He that is in the world!

You will be attacked, discouraged, maligned, and misunderstood by some of the people you are sacrificing to serve. Satan’s minions will fight you every step of the way. You will learn what it means to walk by faith and live in the Spirit, or you will quit.

We don’t need pretty boys, pretenders, or professionals. We need men of God filled with faith and the Spirit.

If you are looking for an easy road, don’t come here.

If you chose the ministry as a “profession,” don’t jump in this lion’s den.

If you want the robes and phylacteries of Phariseeical position, go somewhere else.

If you need a comfy position with competitive pay and little expectation, this is not the place for you.

BUT WE DO NEED MEN. REAL MEN. GODLY MEN.

We still see miracles happen in New England. God is moving in ways not experienced by other parts of the country today. Christians are banding together. The lost are starving for truth. Millions await the Gospel.

Scores are being saved. Those who accept Christ are not playing church. We still believe in prayer and fasting. We preach the whole counsel of God. We are fighting on the front lines of spiritual battle.

If you desire to walk by faith, do the impossible, and see miracles, you won’t be disappointed. We invite you to join the special forces of God’s army. We are here to help you.

The struggle is real. The rewards are incomparable. We are on the winning side.
